Sick Joy Drop Label Debut ‘Shoot Your Lover’

Brighton-based Geordies Sick Joy are celebrating their signing to SO Recordings (Deaf Havana, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Band of Skulls) with the release of their scuzzy new single ‘Shoot Your Lover’.

A groove laden dose of QOTSA-esque alt-rock, ‘Shoot Your Lover’ blends powerful, distorted guitars lines with a relentlessly thundering bassline set against effortlessly emotive vocals, before descending into a chaotic frenzy of infectious, grungy abandon.

The grunge pop trio’s lead singer and guitarist Mykl stated “Sometimes the things you think you love aren’t very good for you at all, they can be the things that are killing you.”

Released on 26th June, it has already taken over an array of playlists such as Spotify’s The Rock List, Amazon Music’s Fresh Noise, and Deezer’s New School of Rock and Instant Rock. It hasn’t been short or radio plays either as Radio X and Amazing Radio have kept it regularly spinning, while DJ Rianne Thompson of the latter station named it her #WakeUp track on Monday.

‘Shoot Your Lover’ follows on from the single ‘Heaven’ and their debut EP Amateurs which was released last year.
