The Pale White Q&A

Introduce yourselves –  tell us about you, your background, music and formation.

We are Adam, Jack and Tom – A Newcastle based alternative rock band called The Pale White. We have been described as sounding like if Nirvana and The Black Keys had a noisy baby and then raised it on a diet of Pixies and QOTSA. We formed in 2016 and have been releasing music and playing shows across the UK and Europe ever since. We played the first ever Neighbourhood Festival and we’re thrilled every time we get asked back as it’s one of our favourite shows of the year.

What’s your favourite thing to do in Manchester or where do you aim for when visiting?

Manchester is one of our favourite cities to play a show. Everyone just knows how to have a good time and the shows are always bouncing. Our recent sold out show at Deaf Institute was one of our all time favourites.

We love hanging out at Jimmy’s which is one of the coolest bars going… and that usually ends up with a few rowdy games of ping pong at Twenty Twenty Two. Night & Day cafe is always a good shout to round the night off… just a wicked city in general isn’t it?!

Which other artists are you going to try and check out at NBHD?

Would like to try and catch Fat White Family, Easy Life, Sports Team and Vant. Heard good things about Walt Disco as well, so we’ll try and cram all of those bands in.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Danger Mouse, Beck & Dan Auerbach to name a few. And if Josh Homme fancies having the lads over at his desert studio in Joshua Tree – we’ll bring the Tequila!

Can you remember the first song you wrote when you were young? What was it called?

Absolutely no idea… probably something god awful. The first song the three of us ever wrote together as a band was called I.O.U. Some of the ideas in that tune weirdly ended up morphing into our song ‘That Dress’ that we still play in our set today. We’re never wasteful… save the planet n all that!

If you could have a meal with three musicians, dead or alive, who would it be?

There’s three of us, so it’s only fair and logical, that we each get to pick a guest to invite to dinner…

Adam: Jack Black

Jack: Dave Grohl

Tom: Freddie Mercury

Tell us a story from your time on the road…

True or false:

– We were once late to a show in Munich as we stopped off at a Berlin sex emporium warehouse to select a comical gift for a dear friend and upcoming superstar’s birthday. He appreciated the gift hugely.

– We once nearly caused Matt from The Amazons to fall out of a moving van as we passionately waved to one another from separate vehicles on a busy road.

– We once saw a man squat down in the middle of the street and perform a bowel movement during a load in in Dublin. He maintained eye contact throughout.

– We were locked out of our hotel just outside of Glastonbury Festival, in the early hours of the morning before our Glasto debut, and had the elderly lady who owned the hotel come outside to scream and threaten us for waking her up.

They’re all true.

What can people expect from your NBHD set?

Carnage. Just carnage.

Plans for the rest of the year?

Continue to release new music as we quietly and stealthily become your favourite new band.

Message for the fans?

Thanks for coming to watch us at Neighbourhood Festival over the years. Every year we move up to a bigger venue or a higher slot and we’re always overwhelmed and properly grateful that people continue to follow and support us. The festival is genuinely always one of our highlights of the year, and we can’t wait to absolutely send it this year and show you the new music we’ve been cooking up.
